NOTICEABLE

Nowadays we tend to perform less pneumonectomies than ever before, since we have developed new techniques that can save vital lung parenchyma, such as sleeve lobectomies or segmentectomies.

However, there are cases that a patient cannot avoid the loss of the whole lung.
In most centres, the procedure is performed through a big incision (thoracotomy). Alternatively, we demonstrate the same case with key hole surgery (VATS) through a 4.5 cm utility incision. The patient did not experience any post operative pain and was discharged 2.5 days after the procedure.
